Never in my life have I ever had to deal with taming curly hair. That is, until my son came along with some of the most gorgeous curly locks in the world. But keeping his curls under control surely hasn’t been the easiest thing to do and it’s something we have to make time to manage at least a few times a week.
I, myself, have straight hair and would sometimes love to have the curls my son does, but after the trials and tribulations of trying to manage his curls, I wouldn’t want to have to personally deal with them on a daily basis. His head of hair is enough curls to deal with as it is.
This is the unruly, no way I’m brushing through that, hard to manage, hot mess, that is my son’s head of curly hair. And as you can see from his facial expression, he’s not the biggest fan of dealing with his hair either. It just so happened to be a bath day and he knew that meant brushing through his hair. Nonetheless, we had to do something.
He made it through bath time, got dressed and was now at the point of brushing through his hair. The picture above is pre-brushing and what we had to work with after towel drying. We did our usual routine by spraying in some detangler and brushing, and then tried a new product, Curlfriends Tame Smoothing Serum.
Over his 4 years (3 years of actual curl taming management), we’ve tried multiple products for curly hair. So to him, it was just another day in the life, but it didn’t come without the question of “Mom, more new hair stuff?” Yes son, we’re trying another hair product. Hopefully this one helps.
- Made from all-natural ingredients.
- No alcohol or artificial colors.
- Infused with rosemary to prevent hair loss (my son doesn’t need this at 4 y/o, but it’s still a nice attribute).
- Fights frizz and stiffness.
- Controls fly-aways and adds shine.
- Daily use adds volume.
- Works on wet AND dry hair.
- Lightweight/never greasy.
Curlfriends Tame Smoothing Serum is just one product in a larger line of a hair care system. The “3” on the bottle indicates it’s the third step to a more involved hair care process, but since I’m using it for my son, I felt like the tame smoothing serum is what he needed the most. But if you really want to get involved in caring for your curly hair, Curlfriends does have shampoos, conditioners and more.
It’s hard to see in my hand because Curlfriends Tame Smoothing Serum is clear, but I put about 6 drops in my hand (directions say 4 drops, but my son has a lot of hair). I then rubbed it into both hands and applied it directly to my son’s damp, brushed hair.
The first thing I tend to notice about hair products are their scent and the scent of Curlfriends is very pleasant, but not overpowering. It’s a clean and sweet, yet subtle scent, making it perfect for anyone.
Applying it was the easy part, but the real test was to see how my son’s hair looked after it air dried. You can also blow dry your hair, but I don’t even own a hairdryer, so we just let our hair air dry around here.
As the day has gone by, I have to say so far so good. He did still have some frizzies after his hair dried, so I applied a few more drops of Curlfriends Tame Smoothing Serum and it made a bit of a difference.
But the biggest difference I’ve noticed, especially as he runs around and jumps on the furniture and everything else, is his curls look so soft and bouncy. With other curly hair products, his hair tends to become stiff and crunchy feeling, but that’s not the case with Curlfriends.
Overall, his hair looks much healthier and he seems to be enjoying it, as once again, you can tell based on the difference in his facial expressions from when we started to where we are now. And I can’t say I blame him.
