You’ve probably heard of probiotics and that they’re great for your gut health. But do you really know what a probiotic is, or why taking a probiotic supplement is good for you? If you don’t, I’m going to break it down for you and share some information about Bio-Kult, the probiotic brand I’ve started taking.

Probiotics and Why They’re Important
I can’t tell you about probiotics without mentioning a somewhat scary word – bacteria. But don’t be scared! From the day you’re born, you have natural bacteria in your body. A balance of good and bad bacteria in your microbiome helps with digestion and also helps to build up your immune system.
Unfortunately, modern lifestyles can affect that balance. The foods you eat, the medications you take, the environment of where you live, and your stress levels, can all have an affect on the amount of good bacteria in your body.
That said, how can you ensure your body has the right balance of good and bad bacteria? Health-boosting bacteria can be found in fermented foods like yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, and kefir. But even if you eat plenty of these probiotic-rich foods, it may not be enough. Taking a probiotic supplement can help keep the right balance of living bacteria in your gut.

Why I Take a Probiotic Supplement
This year is all about health and healing for me. I’ve just been trying to get into the routine of taking better care of my mental and physical health. So why not make my microbiome and gut health a part of that routine?
As mentioned above, there are certain things about modern lifestyles that really affect the good bacteria in our bodies. For me, I know the foods I eat and my stress levels, are definitely big factors. And to be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the fermented foods that contain natural bacteria, so I take a daily probiotic. In fact, a few weeks ago I started taking Bio-Kult probiotics.

What’s in a Bio-Kult Probiotic?
This list probably won’t mean much to you, but it’s interesting to know exactly what goes into a Bio-Kult capsule. These are the original 14 probiotic strains contained in a single capsule.

And believe it or not, each capsule contains a minimum of 2 billion microorganisms (bacteria).
My Experience with Bio-Kult Probiotics

The first few days I started taking Bio-Kult probiotics, I did notice that I seemed unusually gassy. After some research, I found that that’s actually normal. It was just my body adapting to the extra probiotic bacteria in my digestive system. And honestly, it felt good to know the supplements are actually working. After a few days, the gassy symptom subsided and everything has been smooth sailing ever since.
Bio-Kult probiotics are super easy to take. The recommended dose is 1-2 capsules once or twice per day, with food. The capsules themselves are very lightweight and small in size, as far as capsules go. I find them pretty easy to swallow, but if you’re not the greatest pill-taker, here’s a helpful hint:
For easier consumption, pull apart the capsules and sprinkle the contents on your food or mix it in a drink. You won’t even notice it’s there. I’ve tried mixing a capsule in some water, just to see if I’d be able to notice a difference in taste, and I didn’t notice a difference at all.
