Here in Florida it’s basically summer year round, except for maybe 1-2 months out of the year. But when summer does actually roll around, the heat is much more intense and flat out uncomfortable. Well, unless you’re a mermaid and hit the pool or beach every day. My family will tell you that I’m usually always hot, even when the rest of them are cool as a cucumber. So to help keep my summers cool, comfortable, and stylish at the same time, I have a few essentials to help me beat the heat.

Whether it’s a maxi dress, sundress, or midi skirt, something flowy definitely helps me keep cool. When that light breeze that I’ve been longing for blows through, there is no better feeling to have it flow around my body and through my dress.
Plus, it doesn’t get more comfortable than a dress. When I’m sweating my behind off, I don’t want denim stuck to my legs. I know I’m not the only one who’s had to peel their skinny jeans off after a day out. And if I happen to be out and have to go the restroom, it is impossible to pull them suckers back up, haha.
As for style? You can’t really go wrong. I was shopping at Kohl’s a couple of weekends ago and I swear I wanted to by all the dresses. The cut and style of each and every one was eye catching and perfectly designed for summer. In fact, I did buy 2 new summer dresses and 1 of them is now my new favorite piece in my closet (yes, it’s the one I’m wearing in these pics).
What kind of Florida girl would I be if I didn’t practically live in sandals? No doubt I’ve been through my fair share of flip flops, strappy sandals, and every kind of sandal there is, but it was just recently that I realized, I’ve been missing out!
Sandals are tricky when it comes to comfort and style. Typically if I find a comfortable pair, they aren’t exactly stylish. And if I find a stylish pair, they usually leave blisters on my feet. Is there a sandal that truly fits the bill of both comfortable and stylish? Because if there is, I need it in my wardrobe.
Well, there is! Okabashi Sandals are comfortable and stylish, and it was just a couple of weeks ago that I found this out. Sandals have always been a summer essential for me, but now the Okabashi Women’s Breeze Flip Flop style is my favorite sandal. I swear I need a pair in every color!
Okabashi Sandals are:
- Crafted with foot therapy in mind.
- Premium arch support & sculpted heel cup.
- Soft upper strap.
- Reflexology inspired design for circulation and ultimate comfort.
- Recommended by podiatrists and chiropractors across the country as a supportive alternative to traditional footwear.
- Vegan, cruelty-free and 100% recyclable.
- Slip resistant material.
- Waterproof and machine washable.
- Manufactured in the U.S, preventing over 10,000 miles of carbon emissions from being released into our air.
- Affordable (every pair is around $20)!
One of my favorite features of Okabashi Sandals is that they’re waterproof. In Florida, I never know when a rain shower is going to roll through, so it’s always a good day when an unexpected downpour doesn’t ruin my shoes.
When it comes to summer accessories, I think minimal. It’s hot, I’m literally always sweating, and just like my clothes, I don’t want my accessories sticking to me. The only 2 accessories I need in the summer are sunglasses and a cute pair of earrings.
It’s pretty obvious why I wear sunglasses, but they’re also a great fashion piece. An added perk for me is that because they cover my eyes, I don’t even bother with makeup. Can’t say I want makeup melting off my face anyways.
As for earrings, they are a simple and affordable way to step up my style, and they don’t stick to my body. Necklaces, bracelets and watches just don’t work for me in the summer heat. I can do completely without the extra collection of moisture those accessories cause. I’m in love with Target’s awesome collection of colorful earrings, perfect for summer, but can find a cute pair just about anywhere. I can even walk into my CVS store and the perfect pair of earrings.
So there you have it! Simple, yet stylish essentials to keep me cool and comfortable during Florida summers. The only other thing I would consider adding to the list is a haircut. I’m a bit overdue for one anyways and in the summer heat, long locks stick to my body too. Even cloudy days in Florida are hot and sticky. The moisture in the air is just unavoidable.
What are your summer essentials for staying cool, comfortable and stylish?
