Making Time for a Little Disney Magic

Disney Live! Mickey & Minnie's Doorway to Magic

Everyone knows how much fun anything Disney is, and Disney Live! is no exception.  This past Friday we took our kids to see Disney Live! Mickey & Minnie’s Doorway to Magic at the BB&T Center and we all had a blast!

But that’s not to say it was smooth sailing actually getting us there.

Disney Live!

The Road to Disney Live!

There are four of us, but because Baby S is under the age of one, she didn’t need a ticket.  For the rest of us, tickets were decently priced at $16.00 per person and then I found a promo code online to use, which saved us a few bucks.  We ended up paying like $12 and some change for each ticket.  Not too bad!

Baby S as Minnie

Now, it’s been a while since I’ve purchased any event tickets through Ticketmaster, which is what I had to do for these, so needless to say I wasn’t expecting to pay a lot in service fees and charges.  Wrong!  The service fees and charges cost just as much as our three tickets.  How crazy is that?!  But that’s no fault of Disney, I’m sure.

So Thursday rolls around and I get a reminder email from Ticketmaster about the event.  Included in that email was a link to print our tickets, which I had yet to do, so that was a plus.  But also included was notification that parking at the BB&T Center was going to be $20 and that was just for the general parking.  If we did VIP parking, which is literally just about 100 foot steps closer than general parking, it would have been around $65.  Um, no thanks!  I’m still flabbergasted at having to pay $20 for parking.

So after it was all said and done, we spent right at $80 to attend Disney Live!, but it was well worth it to see our kids having a fun time.

Mickey & the Gang

The Disney Live! Show

My son is four years old and when he gets in places that are kind of busy and loud (like a stadium or arena), he freaks out and starts crying.  I think it just scares him a little bit, but once we got him sat down and the show started, he was super excited.  I mean, doesn’t Mickey and the gang have that effect on everyone?!

Disney Live! Mickey & Minnie’s Doorway to Magic is a really fun show for both kids and adults, alike.  It’s full of fun tricks and magic that the kids will enjoy, but also full of classic characters and stories that many of us adults grew up watching and reading about, including Cinderella, Snow White, Aladdin, Rapunzel, and Woody and Buzz.

Toy Story

Side note:  If you’re now sitting there thinking, well I didn’t grow up with Woody and Buzz, so what are you talking about?  Dare I say that Toy Story came out in 1995.  Yeap, I was 9 years old.  It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago, but for those of us who are 30 years young, we did kind of grow up on Toy Story.

Now, back to the show.  I don’t want to give you play by play of everything that happens in the Disney Live! show in case you’re planning on seeing it, but it’s very audience interactive throughout, which makes it really fun.

Bippity Boppity Boo

You get a little taste of making magic happen yourself by using Tinkerbell’s rhyme, as well as a little Bippity Boppity Boo from the Fairy Godmother.  The show includes everything from pumpkin carriages, to magic mirrors, to evil witches, to out of this world light shows, to a little broom cleaning magic (how classic is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice?), to floating lanterns, and even a magic genie.  You can’t go wrong!

The show lasted for about an hour and a half or so, with a 15-20 minute intermission in between.  It really didn’t seem like it lasted as long as it did, but time flies when you’re having fun.

I would definitely recommend taking your kids to see Disney Live! Mickey & Minnie’s Doorway to Magic if it’s coming to your area.  There are still upcoming shows, so be sure to check and see if a little Disney magic is coming your way!  Hopefully you won’t have to deal with $20 parking, haha.

  1. Live Disney shows are always the best. We saw something similar years and years ago with the boys. Just because we live at Disney World doesn’t mean we can’t also enjoy their out of park stage shows!

  2. These shows are a must! I just went to Disney on Ice last week and it was a lot of fun. It’s so much fun to see how excited the kids get too. That’s my favorite part!

  3. This looks like a fantastic show to see with the kids. My Daughter is in love with all things Disney.
